Building a Manifesto for Change: Circular Economy, Re-use and Office Fit-Outs

Talk series: Building a Manifesto for Change

Across four sessions, we will explore key climate challenges facing the built environment, sharing bold ideas, uncovering barriers to progress and shaping our Manifesto for Change.

Episode 1: Circular economy, reuse and office fit outs

For the first session of our Building a Manifesto for Change talk series, we were joined by Emily, British Land, Lyndsay, Thirdway and our own Love Zero Waste lead, Sophia Major to explore this very question and uncover what needs to change.

The conversation touched upon:

—  The urgent need to embed circularity from day one and reuse existing fit-outs

— To the deeper attitude shift needed to value reuse over 'newness'

—  The important role of practical tools such as material passports and whole-life carbon assessments

— The challenges of scaling bio-based materials within current waste systems

—  The policy and supply-chain changes needed to move from a 'strip-out and replace' culture to one of reuse, responsibility and respect.

Thank you to our excellent speakers for sharing their thoughts, opinions and expertise during the session.

Challenging the accepted is key to making change happen. The learnings from this discussion will feed directly into our Manifesto for Change, a provocation to the industry and a roadmap for collective action, which we look forward to sharing early next year.
