Gingerbread City Exhibition 2025
Where did the snow go?
As part of the Gingerbread City Exhibition 2025, Love Design Studio and Shade the UK were busy designing, baking and building a biscuit structure for The Gingerbread City® London 2025. We're excited to share our creation titled 'Where Did the Snow Go?'.
Responding to this year's theme, 'The Playful City', our gingerbread asks what might happen if we don’t adapt and protect our buildings, cities and people in a warming world.
Our dream-scene is inspired by our Overheating Adaptation Guide for Homes, which sets out 43 simple adaptation measures people can take to reduce overheating in their homes. Our scene places ‘heaven’ beside ‘hell’ to show how small, thoughtful interventions can help to protect us all from the impacts of a changing climate.
In the 'heavenly' city, shading devices such as awnings, shutters, planting and internal shade create passive cooling to keep buildings and people cool and comfortable. In the 'hellish' city, a lack of preparation has taken a toll, a wildfire has scorched the earth and a building is left in ruins.
Our two worlds show that with the right adaptation measures, our cities can stay playful, joyful and resilient, even if the snow never returns.
