The Brief

To support the eco-retrofit of a 10-acre rural estate including the main cottage, barns and outbuildings. The project aimed to develop practical measures to improve resilience, comfort and sustainability. Focus areas included flooding and water management, internal comfort, operational carbon and embodied carbon, with particular attention to heating demand and overheating.

The Result

The final proposal creates a more comfortable and energy-efficient set of buildings, with spaces that stay at pleasant temperature throughout the year. The project is now moving forward for funding.

The Solution

Our process began with a collaborative workshop to prioritise a clear implementation roadmap. We delivered a targeted heat-load and overheating analysis, modelling options for insulation, heat pumps, infrared panels and underfloor heating. We also completed room-by-room assessments to set out passive, low-carbon measured for summer comfort.
