Shade the UK joins Open City’s ‘The Brief’ podcast
“If I had a million pounds to spend, I'd probably spend a large chunk on a national heat risk awareness campaign. A smaller chunk, then equally distributed on retrofitting external shading on and around all social housing, care homes, hospitals, health centres, nurseries and schools. Another chunk on street tree planting, urban greening and shading, 10% painting flat asphalt roofs white or with solar reflective paint, and then the final chunk, installing drinking water fountains in as many places as possible.”
Polly Turton, Head of Climate Action and Public Health at Shade the UK and Love Design Studio, joined Open City’s The Brief to talk all things heat, shade and adaptation.
The episode covers timely news stories from the week including dangerously hot homes, shading London's Oxford Street and adapting historic buildings on Brick Lane.
